Handcrafted Soaps

Many people have experienced the incredible benefits of handmade soaps, and they are extremely surprised! They cannot believe that many of their skin problems were brought up the soap they used everyday.
The reason is that almost all cleansing bars that you buy at the store are detergents, not soaps at all. They are called syndet bars, or synthetic detergent bars. They are made from synthesized chemicals and are usually much harsher than soap. Detergents contain petroleum distillates rather than oil. On the other hand, true soap is made from natural oils (such as olive, coconut and palm) and is a gentle cleansing product more appropriate for use on skin than is detergent. If you consider than, in top of that, commercial soap are loaded with dyes and perfumes, you then understand why they are an assault to healthy skin, and a treat to more sensible complexions.
What are the advantages of handcrafted soap? Since handcrafted soap is less processed than commercial soap, more of its base oils' healing properties are available to your skin. For example. glycerin, a natural byproduct of the soap making process, is a great skin emollient, attracting moisture to your skin and helping keep moisture in. Glycerin is so valuable, in fact, that most commercial soap companies remove glycerin from their soaps, going on to sell it as a totally separate commodity (think about the creams you have to use AFTER you wash your skin with their soap). The soap-user is the loser here, for soaps without their natural glycerin have lost a significant amount of skin-softening properties.
Handcrafted soap is made without the harsh chemicals, detergents or petroleum products that dry out the skin. Because they use natural and/or vegetable oils instead of animal fats, handcrafted soaps are less likely than commercial soaps to cause clogged pores.
